Overview
AR Togater is a puzzle augmented reality game app that combines platforming mechanics. Players need to find characters called “Dicers” within a complex multi-platform level.
Challege
It’s my first time designing an AR experience. It’ s important for me to understand the limits and possibilities while designing in AR, and explore different ways to make the game friendly and fun.

Design a fun AR game app with unique character and level design.
Role
I was responsible for the art direction and the UX/UI design of the product. I worked closely with the game designer and 3d modeler to ensure the visual elements and game interactions are conhesive.

Most of the gameplay rely on observing the platform to find secret pathways to the Dicers. I designed a UI system for different interactions.

Minimal UI
A good AR experience immerses users into interactions. With the design, I tried to devote as much of the screen as possible to display the physical world and our app’s virtual objects.
Avoid teaching users all the mechanics at once
Show instructions for only one new type of platform at each level, give user time to get familiar with the interaction before introducing a new one.
Conclusion
Designing for AR is an interesting experience for me. It challenged me to think of the user experience from a very different approach.
